I have been feeling very down and depressed. I have always been a "catholic" but never really practiced besides my parents bringing me to church and going through basic cdc. I want to get into the bible and the teachings of god, but I do not know where to start and where to go from there. Would someone be able to give some suggestions? I feel like god is something this country needs desperately.

Start with what's familiar. Go to mass, if that feels right talk to a priest about what your next steps should be. If Catholicism doesn't seem to fill the void, go church shopping. Talk to friends and co-workers etc about their faiths. Try out their services and talk to their ministers. What's nearby? Convenience is important especially when you're starting out. I went on a similar journey and am very happy with my church and faith life. It's not the center of my life, but it helps keep me centered.

Alot of priests are liberal as well. We drive a ways to go to a traditional church. Don't get frustrated with the first church you go to and give up.
