Number of years ago I worked at Home Depot. When the oilfields came through and were offering stupid amounts of money for laborers, the store decided to up the pay of employees to try to compete.
Starting pay went from $10/hr to $13/hr. Anyone not making $13/hr got a raise.
The guy that had worked there for 5 years, had all the certifications, and was already making $13.50/hr? His pay didn't change.
So all those people left. All the experienced employees were insulted so they went to the oilfields.
That General Manager ended up losing her job because of the turnover.

Yeah, I don’t think many people truly examine the unintended consequences of these decisions.
Least of all congressmen when signing 40,000 page bills into law.
I doubt they even read most of what they sign. Another politician or corporate suit says "sign this for $$$" and they do it.
