The reason they believe that is because if people have no individual rights then that means they can victimize other people at will, most often by stealing things.

The one I knew was below average intelligence and had schizophrenia, so was never going to be able to figure out the implications of having no individual rights, such as the simple fact that meant she could be victimized too according to her own beliefs.
