That still counts as charity, but you're keeping control of exactly what your money is doing. Every time you pass over your money to a charity--even to your church--you're passing over responsibility to them too; the next thing you know, some overly-compassionate minister is letting trannies hold meetings in the church hall while you pay to heat it.

Yes, that's been my experience too. Depends a lot on the church, too.

And don’t donate to any political organization.

I don't donate for the same reason. I love the looks I get for ignoring bell ringers.

You should never give to a real charity unless you have truly done your fucking homework on them and even then even the good ones end up spending a very massive chunk of their income on shit that doesn't help anyone but themselves.... It's just a sad reality of how charities work in this country

So you are correct. You should always try to find a way to give charity with your own hands and know exactly who it's helping.

Depends on the charity. The local food bank, local thrift shop, and my local church, I have no problems with donating to - the money goes where it's needed.

https://www.charitynavigator.org informs any other charitable activity I decide to do or do not.

I received a solicitation for donations from some Jewish advocacy group yesterday in the mail.
