None of this was done, so I will always remember this year as the year I lost all faith in our checks and balances. Unless there is a new party and serious election reform I am done voting.

They just were surprised because they had assumed that Trump was more of a joke than a real threat. It's quite possible even that they actually helped him to become the Repub candidate because they ASSUMED he would be the least likely to get so much votes they'd have to work hard to give the win to her.
And then he surprised them as a president too. They may have assumed that this was just a rich guy who wanted to add one more feather to his cap, and would be contend to mostly just playact as the prez, give speeches and lord it in White House parties and get the red carpet ceremonies everywhere he went, but then he actually started to try and fulfill his campaign promises...
I think we got cheated, but the cases were dismissed because Trumps legal teams argued electors clauses and procedure. He never actually presented any fraud evidence in most of them because that wasn’t what he was arguing. They even had one judge ask why the lawyer was outside the court claiming massive fraud and then showed up to argue precedural errors.
Common sense tells us that there was fraud without a doubt — some of those statistical impossiblities are just too much.
But legally, I can see why the team tried to argue the legal theory instead. I’m no lawyer, but I can imagine the sheer legal burden of proving that X thousand of votes are fraudulent beyond a shadow of doubt, or at least enough that it upends an entire state. Or you say they didn’t follow the constitution or the proper channels. We got screwed and I hate to admit it, the democrats were pretty genius putting the COVID and mail-in ballots together.
It’s going to be interesting if they ever actually get a commission or some other bullshit to investigate. Nothing will come of it but still will provide some political drama

The standards of proof are easier for civil than criminal. Assuming you can get a judge to hear them, of course.
