How were you guys able to set up a redirect if you don't control the old site? Why does everything look the same is it just copy pasted code?

The domain is the name you type into your browser to view the site. Think of it like the telephone number. The site is the person you're actually talking to. All that has happened is someone stole the telephone number so they've switched to a new one. Nothing of who you are talking to has changed.
