He was already nominated by the time the fake accusations came out. I think it's more likely that they just didn't have him compromised at the time.

No there was still a need. Its possible we could have cast doubt on him if there was silence. Them acting insane was to ensure 100% he would get in. They were taking zero chances

I really doubt there would have been enough doubt on him to change anything. Many of us had doubts about ACB, including myself (I did call her out right until she was nominated, when my attitude changed to "it's done, might as well hope for the best now"). But I don't recall seeing anything like that about Kavanaugh. If there were any, it wasn't anything like with ACB.

My point is they factored in the possibility that we would doubt him. They took that 90% chance and bumped it up to 100%.
