Formal cooperation in abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae, meaning it happens when you commit the offense. There's no trial, no jury of your peers, no council of Cardinals to review your case and pass judgement, no being put to the Question with a chance for redemption if you cooperate, you're just gone. Erased from the Book of Life by God Himself.

Yeah, it's a real dark day for Christianity when when a professed Catholic can commit such a heinous crime against human life and even the Pope has nothing to say about it.
