He didn't say "don't vote for Trump". Failing to go 100% after a bitter primary doesn't make him the enemy. He did a lot of good.
It's now clearly established that communist terrorist agitators were the ringleaders. Shame that some legitimate Trump supporters got caught up in the confusion and went along with them.
