Did you know that the French army was inches away from mutiny during WW1 and German intelligence officers actually killed themselves for not knowing about it years later? Just throwing that out there.
I did, however, think that the strategy of the Germans once it became stalemated and they were surrounded by stronger enemies that they couldn't defeat should have been to attempt to simply end the war without punitive damages for either side and return to pre-war borders, and drop leaflets on all the fronts stating exactly that. As soon as that one section of front turned into a Christmas celebration, this should have been something that they kept in mind. And if the French were on the verge of a mutiny and then read leaflets stating that the Germans were trying to simply end the war and go home, they might revolt and insist that their government take that deal.
