It was a Carter era decision to stop all efforts towards Plutonium reprocessing in the US. There is no longer any commercial infrastructure for reprocessing in the US.
As a side note, it is a federal requirement that a spent fuel repository allow for retrieval of the spent fuel.

Ok this is largely not true. The Atomic Energy Reorganization Act of 1953 separated the AEC into the DOE and NRC. The DOE had its own reactors at Savanah River and Hanford. DOE is responsible for spent fuel.
Civilian reactors with the exception of a couple of early test reactors are light water moderated designs. The reactor designs utilized in commercial power production are safer than designs optimized for Plutonium production.

Yeah, PF is how I got into welding thus leading to inspection. Nothing good is going to come of this. Oklahoma most of our pipeline welders are American and even in the refineries and power plants but when you get down to refinery's on the coast you will start seeing some non-American work force. Usually not even able to communicate with foreman's without a Interpreter. Now if you're talking about painters, insulators, machine operators and roustabouts are almost all from some country south of our border legally here on either asylum or some visa.

Shit, I’m in a Union. I live in a SUPER blue state, and have been in a union here for 17 years. Joined in 2003, Red pilled in 2008. Can’t just walk away from my career, retirement and medical.... but have consistently voted Republican based on what I knew to be true, despite what union leadership was spewing. Leadership pushed pretty hard against Trump (both in 2016 and 2020) but our work outlook and paychecks were telling a different story. Most of the guys that I know personally voted Trump both times.

Commercial reactor spent fuel could be reprocessed to extract the Plutonium from it. Spent fuel rods typically contain more fissile material than natural Uranium. It was a Carter era decision to stop all efforts towards Plutonium reprocessing in the US. There is no longer any commercial infrastructure for reprocessing in the US.
As a side note, it is a federal requirement that a spent fuel repository allow for retrieval of the spent fuel.
Our current disposal program is to start a war every few years which allows us to use up a bunch of depleted uranium rounds.
Thus leading to everyone who was next to that weapon system while cycling or the maintenance personnel breathing in the dust but hey that isn't dangerous at all🤦♂️.
Ok this is largely not true. The Atomic Energy Reorganization Act of 1953 separated the AEC into the DOE and NRC. The DOE had its own reactors at Savanah River and Hanford. DOE is responsible for spent fuel.
Civilian reactors with the exception of a couple of early test reactors are light water moderated designs. The reactor designs utilized in commercial power production are safer than designs optimized for Plutonium production.

Yeah, PF is how I got into welding thus leading to inspection. Nothing good is going to come of this. I went from a dead end job to banking under Trump back to Welders selling their Rigs and PF selling their tools and going into a different trade. It depends on what part of the country you're in. Oklahoma most of our pipeline welders are American and even in the refineries and power plants but when you get down to refinery's on the coast you will start seeing some non-American work force. Usually not even able to communicate with foreman's without a Interpreter. Now if you're talking about painters, insulators, machine operators and roustabouts are almost all from some country south of our border legally here on either asylum or some visa.
