The US Postal Service is a government sponsored monopoly and ought to be disbanded.

Lysander Spooner beat it with private competition (until they harassed it into closing):

Not really since you can mail things using several private companies.. What they are is a parasite that sucks billions from us taxpayers to keep their retirement fund afloat.. Where else can you earn upwards of $100 an hour and retire making $300k a year with full health benefits.. Those government unions...

Your mailbox is federal property.

It's a felony for anyone other than the USPS to deliver to it.

What they are is a parasite that sucks billions from us taxpayers to keep their retirement fund afloat.

This is incorrect and is one improvement USPS has on the rest of government, despite being a monopoly its operations are not tax-funded.

Thanks for the awesome link. I think that for the most part we’ve moved past the need for letter carriers and USPS serves as a price fixing agent in the packages market which is their most obvious detrimental impact at the moment. They don’t respond to market conditions actively in the same way that private delivery services do. I’m pretty sure that the USPS is almost singlehandedly stopping the era of distributed manufacturing of consumer goods from taking place in our country. People are worried about delivery prices skyrocketing because they don’t have faith that the market will solve the problem once there is an incentive to do so. People also don’t understand that if FedEx stopped making money delivering packages they’d pivot their business model (like they’re doing with generalized logistics and technology services at the moment). Organs of government are incapable of doing this.

When the USPS get bailouts every quarter on the order of billions of dollars, where do you think that money comes from? Every dollar the US government spends is tax payer funded. Every package they deliver at a loss, is shipped at tax payer expense as well. The over time fraud that occurs to elevate retirement, that is tax payer funded. the USPS is one of the worst entities for fraud, waste, and abuse, period.

Edit: and before someone claims again that it is a 'self-funded operation', consider that while saying this the USPS defaulted on 42 Billion USD in payments to its retirement fund. Total nonsense and simply inexcusable.

As scummy as usps is, they defaulted because George dubya made it to where they have to fund retirement 70 years in advance aka people not even born yet.

It wasn't GW, it was a law passed in 2006 by congress (2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act) supported by both sides that the USPS just ignored and still do. And it was meant to prevent the very fraud and waste that occurs within the USPS, and so that they stop asking for billions every year to fund their own retirement program. All the right people blame it for the USPS failures but that isn't quite right. The USPS is simply a giant money-pit, at best, and a fraud-ridden, corrupt welfare program disguised as a tax-payer funded job program probably being a better description.

edit: here is an excellent write-up about this fiasco:

Look again pal, they got a $25 billion bailout in the cue, https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/congress/house-passes-25-billion-postal-service-bailout-that-would-block-reforms

This is one of many search for it and you will see.. They might be able to cover most operating expenses but salaries and retirement not so much..

Remember the illegitimate government thing as it is rumored that as early as this weekend "things" will happen.. A huge embarrassment that we all will have to bear but in the long run what was taken from us in 1871 will be returned..

YOU are being ruled.

It's time to wake up and choose who you want to rule over you.

I've chosen GEOTUS for life.

Wake up and read a history book.

They back dated balllots in several swing states in order to meet the rec'd by deadline....my own cousin was asked to back date ballots and she is in NY....they shipped dozen of boxes of what is believed to be fake ballots across state lines into PA and WI per two witnesses, both drivers contracted by the USPS.

A mailman here in NV was caught selling ballots, the video was played on Hannity. Everyone from a very outdated voter roll received a mail in ballot here in NV , you didn't save to request one and thus hundreds of thousands were delivered to known bad addresses. ( we know this because 225k of the summer primary ballots were returned as undeliverable).

There are reports of USPS personnel destroying ballots. In WI a driver working for the USPS testified that on the morning of the fourth he delivered about 100k worth of ballots to a vote counting center, this was odd because in the week prior the most he was delivering per day was a few dozen....these ballots were not in the typical pick up place in the USPS facility and when he questioned where they came from he was meet with hostility and was fired the next day. This drop didn't meet the Nov 3 8 pm deadline. Where did this one postal facility suddenly come up with 100k ballots on the morning of the 4th? Who knows, but the driver who came forward to testify that he drove boxes of ballots from NY into PA testified that the FBI investigator who came to question him took a hostile stance and instead of wanting to ask about this odd delivery started accusing him of lying. Weird cuz there's also a creepy video of a postal employee who came forward in PA being questioned by a USPS investigator who told the whistle blower he was mistaken and was the victim of false memories being implanted in his brain lol wth?!

There's much more but that's all I can remember. We know in Detroit and Philadelphia boxes of ballots were delivered by private vehicles to counting centers in the wee hours of the morning. They were delivered in unofficial boxes, paper bags, plastic bags ECT....no chain of custody provided. This is captured on video on the morning of the 4th.

Were you literally not here during the election

-3
FoxAintGotFriends -3 points ago +2 / -5

I was and I'm not saying fraud didn't take place. I just wasn't aware of USPS involvment beyond sending people their mail in ballots which isn't exactly the USPS's fault.

3
Wtf_socialismreally 3 points ago +4 / -1

Well, then you weren't here because it was stickied for like a week a bunch of times.
