He was having his victory lap speeches about China, and seemed to be gloating, ''The best laid plans (of China)''... etc. As if We Yanks were victorious over the CCP. I'm just like, is he fucking delusional??? I mean, that sort of thing won't be noticed by a dopey lib or a normie, but does he think that we will just take his word that all is well now because he put out some sanctions? FFS the country's being led almost entirely by tools of the CCP, directly or indirectly. We're being dragged back into war, into foreign oil, into Marxist propaganda everywhere in daily life! So where is the big win, Pompeo? Sorry for the rant - I don't hate the man, I'm just so fed up with this country running on lies and bullshit.

Can tell by his speech that he's very intelligent but he has a strange way with words. His talks sound very disingenuous in some ways. Similar to what you describe, he openly classifies simple steps as large accomplishments and does it in a calm tone which makes it even weirder.
I enjoy his strong anti CCP stance but ultimately think there is something wrong with him and he's not strong enough for the job. I'm sure there are plenty of intelligent, competent people that can acknowledge the danger of the CCP and handle it more directly and with more transparency.
Remember, he’s a West Point graduate.
