The other day, I had an Amish lady ask me, "Is it really as bad as they say out there?"
She knows I work in Harrisburg, and she saw the newspaper headlines about protests in the state capitals.
I told her honestly that there was nothing happening. No crowds of protesters, just a couple streets blocked by HMMVs, about a dozen National Guard looking bored, and 3 horse trailers with mounted police gearing up.
She then went on a rant about the media sowing fear and division.
There are trump flags all over Holmes County, Ohio, the center of Amish country here. The GOP chair of that county is Amish, too.
Wow. Around here, the Amish tend to stay out of politics. That's why I was so surprised by our conversation. I've known her for years, and we've never even touched on politics before.
