LGBTQ Real Estate agents from all over the country are coming after my job.
They are claiming that posts on my personal FB page is "hate speech" and they are coming after my livelihood. Theyve already contacted my employer and the associations i am a member of.
I am being targeted simply for my ideology and have evidence this is a coordinated attack stemming from a single person who outwardly posts hate speech against conservatives and trump supporters on their own public pages. The things this person posts on their page clearly shows their hate and spite towards agents they do not agree with.
Any advice or recourse here?
Regarding your job, if you're concerned about losing in: get a lawyer, but aside from some very location-specific protections, you can be fired or otherwise discriminated against over your political affiliation, as political beliefs and affiliation are not a protected class.
Regarding what people are saying about you online: if you feel harassed or threatened, you can talk to a lawyer about a C&D or restraining order, but if all they're doing is reposting content you posted, that usually isn't going to meet the threshold of harassment. Unless they are trying to invite violence against you (and, unfortunately, trying to dissuade people from using your service is not violence), this is one of those "freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence" type situations.
I plan on fighting this as I dont need this job. Luckily, I have been successful enough that I dont need to work.
This is more of a principled fight for me. My employer agrees with me for the most part but if the associations rule that it was indeed "hate speech", I wont have any employer anyway.
Point of the matter is who determines what is hate speech? Who polices it? I understand that "freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence" however if im being let go specifically due to "hate speech", legally how are the questions above going to be answered?
