How do you know if you should boycott a store?

We need to start rebuilding locally owned stores.

If a store is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, then boycott them.

If a store/owner ever contributed to Black Lives Matters, then boycott them.

add your own requirements below.

I've been refusing to shop anywhere that hassles me about not wearing a mask. I'm not supporting anyone who treats me like I'm toxic poison.

I've had a few OFFER me a mask but did not insist on one. I've had only ONE store (REI) refuse me entrance (blue county, blue state) for not wearing a mask, even though I have a medical exemption. The store manager cited corporate policy for the refusal, insisting that as a "private entity" they don't have to honor medical exemptions (he and they are wrong). He also claimed that online sales and curbside delivery are "adequate accommodations", which is ludicrous. Needless to say, I will not patronize that store again, and I will be filing an ADA complaint against them.

I'm sure his head wound spin if some restaurant cited being a private entity as a justification to refuse service to a black person. And also be completely unaware of how he is doing the same wrong thing.
