I guess it depends what your definition of middle class is. Owners of the machining shops were making about 23 million a year. I guess if you are a shop worker or welder you do start at about $50k and go up to about $95k. About what plumbers around here make. And if a decent house costs about $150k, it's not a bad life. If you think $100 million is the upper class, and you would be correct to think that, then yes, there were a lot of middle class jobs lost.
