I know the point of this impeachment hearing is to remove Trump from being able to run again in 2024 but won't this open up a whole new can of worms for the Democrats? Won't Trump's lawyers get to reveal evidence to the public?

The Senate makes the rules. We will have to see what the rules are, and whether they give DJT adequate opportunity to demonstrate the basis for his belief that the election fraud occurred, and was sufficient to produce a different result.
