This smells like a setup. They're not getting rid of their useful idiots. They're just using them in a different way. I'm guessing they'll push to make anonymity online impossible. That is one of their biggest gripes after all. Eventually all devices will be required to be indentifiable by pointing to a centrally registered account no matter what provider you have or where your connection originates. That'll be the end of VPNs and such. Have all the free speech you want citizen, so long as your legal identity is attached to it. That way any law enforcement or bureaucrat can see who you really are at any time to issue you demerits or fines for violations of the new online free speech code.
China's social credit score system may not work as intended here, but the communists here are working hard to make an equivalent system until a complete takeover can be achieved. They must shut up that formerly silent majority that's currently finding its voice.
