You are right but the problem is that in free society you cannot do that unless political campign of politicans would be funded from taxes not donations.
What will have obvious disadvantage of possible manipulation by officials.
Why ? You cannot stop private persons to make donations,so if you don't allow private companies to do so - their owners will do so, and if you would limit those donations they would simply hire other people to pay such money.
