I've never known the flu or a cold to cause loss of taste and smell for days(so far).... The only thing I know of that does that is covid....

There are many corona viruses and they are all classified as common cold viruses. They merely gave it a scary name. Covid-19 has not been proven to exist according to those who have studied the matter.
The cold or flu CAN and does effect your sense of taste and smell depending on how congested you are. If your nose is stuffed up, you can't smell and your sense of taste is directly connected to the sense of smell.
