It does seem that there should be research into more advanced nuclear technologies. As a mechanical engineer, power generation is important to me. I've been in favor of nuclear energy since I was a kid. The first job I remember I "wanted to be when I grew up" was a nuclear physicist!
I seem to recall reading there is a lot of research being done on fusion reactors now, far more than is publicly discussed.
There aren't serious concerns.
We should be doing both LFTR should be most of them tho.
