Why create a new party when you can hijack the Republican party?
Because you can't. At least not without sacrificing some babies and letting Mitch McConnell film you doing it.
It's much easier and better to just build it from the ground up under a new brand.
It's a necessary rebranding. Carrying over the name carries over the baggage. It's important to have two separate names to create contrast between what each represents. Republican = establishment uniparty. Patriot = populist. Republicans like Crenshaw and Cheney can't continue being establishment when flying the Patriot colors without standing out like a sore thumb.
Already the 90-95% of people who voted Republican are Trump supporters, you also get the 5-10% vote of the people that even if they dislike Trump they will not vote Democrat. You just need to win all the Republican primaries, not only the national election.
