I said I do not feel comfortable with this and if you must, okay. I didn't want to cause a scene in front of my kids....from what I gathered the officer who mentioned me being detained was new in training and then the other officer stepped in and said no when I questioned it. I told him I was staying next to my kids since I didn't do anything wrong.

Never give them permission to do anything and always record the encounter. Teach your children about their rights. You set a bad precedent and now they will always wonder if you are a criminal.

What an asshole thing to say... If you must know My kids are 1 and 3 so discussing rights is above their vocabulary. Thanks for that you seem like such a kind soul!!

Not trying to be a dick but the image of you having your car searched is now etched in their memories. They will probably discuss it when they are older and wonder what you did. Welcome to the police state.
