As much as the west likes to pile onto Putin, I'm of the unpopular opinion that given the situation in Russia he may be the best man to run it. Cold, calculating and has a great sense of humor. Tough adversary for us, but not batshit crazy insane. Once he's gone there's a good chance Russia completely falls apart.

Russia is our natural ally. Putin is an enemy of Globalism, not us. I would 100% rather live in a Putin regime than a Biden regime.

Putin sold 18% share of Rosneft to Biden & the CCP.

I don't recall the names of the several people likely to be his successor but I do recall them being sane level headed individuals. Russia will be ok. Unless and until the US decides to attack, then things will get messy.

Russia completely falls apart

I would hazard to say that it would be because he has killed anyone that could have done the job to root out any kind of competition.

Given the political dynamic in Russia it could be the case that any smart Russian leader would be forced to do so... reforming that sort system is probably beyond even Putin's pay grade.

This. He cares for his country. So at least we know what we are dealing with.

I like the part of history when the russian navy was docked in san francisco bay, as heroes and allies (NY Daily Tribune, 1863).

They received:

Hospitalities of the city; Grand military and civic parade; Revue in City Hall Park; Speeches from Mayor Updike and Admiral Lasartsky; Reception at the Governor's Room.

They toasted lincoln saying, 'in difficult times, america has picked an honest man for the job.'

They don't put that story about, any more.
