That is definitely one argument I have completely dropped from my rhetorical arsenal, "you voted for this, so it's your own fault!"

No. We can no longer really be sure that any "blue" area besides the craziest lefty cities actually voted for what they're getting, and even the lefty cities probably wouldn't have the kind of total one party rule they do if voting were fair.
