I’m a union fitter affected by this BS... and I only know a few idiots in my local who actually voted for this shit stain... even the old timers voted Trump...

What are some good ideas for hard hat stickers?... as in quotes that will fit on a 1.5” round stickers... something that gets the point across, but won’t get me kicked off a jobsite or fired...

They will never learn.

2
Candycorn1776 2 points ago +2 / -0

“ sucking dick just to put food on the table” That statement reminded me of my first “woke” moment last summer while talking to my college student. She was trying to convince me that America should “decriminalize” prostitution. The conversation went downhill fast as I was logically speaking to a programmed student. Our relationship has not recovered.

That being said, we won't go against a machine that has every arsenal against us for a glimmer of something that may not happen.

You're right though. We won't do anything. Not because we dont want too, but because we can't.

After everything is said and done, what happens next? What if it fails? Do we just go back to our lives?

Na.

If shit went south like you suggest and people took action, America would be no better than the third-world shitholes you see killing each other in the streets. Too much to lose.

BUILD YOUR OWN PIPELINE

9
Shadilady 9 points ago +9 / -0

Seriously, what does Buttgig mean about creating "more jobs" under a green agenda? Buying more rare earth metals from sweatshop quarry operations in China? To blanket hundreds of acres of our desert in solar panels? Or more fucking windmill construction dotting our landscape that requires a boatload of carbon emissions to truck transfer the massive parts, only to replace them when the fan gets clogged with too many predatory birds? Thicker window replacement for our high rises to save on AC bills? WTF are these green jobs? Because, the way i see it you put a pipeline in the ground once, 6 months later the deer are munching on the new ROW grass, and everyone gets to benefit, economically, and with energy independence using our own resources. Fuck these bought and paid for politician idiots.

5
marishiten 5 points ago +5 / -0

Installing solar isn't even a trade skill.

On top of solar being inefficient as fuck still and if the Inverter fails, womp womp. Enjoy an entire array down. Also enjoy the fucked PPT on a central inverter.

Don't go for micro inverters. Those things fucking fail like you would not believe.

2
Shadilady 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes, and for as fickle as the solar panel setups are, the energy obtained is still routed to a substation generator that is run on good old fashioned oil or gas, no? Sounds like you have really delt with this mess.

3
thisguy883 3 points ago +3 / -0

Reminds me of a picture I saw where a guy was using a gas generator to charge his electric car because there were no charging stations around.

3
bobobob 3 points ago +3 / -0

Plus these windmills and solar farms are inefficient, only last about a decade, and require huge swaths of land. Green energy is a huge scam. If they were actually serious about transitioning from coal, they would be building more nuclear plants.

Watch the Planet of the Humans documentary. It features a bunch of greenies who are disillusioned with the whole Green Energy scam.

3
Weloveflyovercountry 3 points ago +3 / -0

good points just want to add that the wiindmills are made from petroleum and are not degradeable, recyclable, and only last for 2 or 3 decades. plus the solare panels are highly toxic and clean disposal/recycling is almost impossible.

I inferred from Rush Limbaugh that he's confident of the same; he doesn't know when, but the Dems "blow it" every time and it will happen again.

I believe it, too. When Obama became president, the Dems owned all the branches of government. Then when it seemed like they would reign for another forty years, they lost them (though in fairness there were a lot of RINO's around so it was more of a "lost on paper"). And they may have been cheating even back then, too.

62
Tryhardneckbeard 62 points ago +62 / -0

The Irony of the Learn to Code meme is that most of the jobs have been offshored and the ones that are still Stateside are being swept up by H1B visa labor. This shit has been going on like this since Bill Clinton transitioned us into a "Service Economy."

23
crazyjackel 23 points ago +23 / -0

It used to be that countries would produce everything they needed themselves and then serve those goods and services to their constituents. This was good because in the case of an emergency such as war. There people would not be reliant on other countries. A country could refuse to stop servicing something to a neighboring country and things would be fine.

However, with globalism, it was determined that the economies of the world should be linked. Countries that produce certain things the most effectively should export them to others in the world and so on. This made countries reliant on each other and made it politically impossible for countries to say "go to hell" to other countries.

The issue is that if you can't say go to hell, you cannot negotiate.

7
CucksForTheDonald 7 points ago +7 / -0

Resource dependencies always existed because some things are found in some places and other things are found in other places. The United States, for example, had to source its Titanium from the USSR because the ore that had the highest concentrations and which was practical to mine at that time could only be found in the USSR or China.

Likewise, before the invention of the Haber-Bosch process, Germany did not have large-scale access to nitrates, which are key to both agriculture and production of munitions.

Japan is scarce with natural resources which are key to industrialization, so they have always been dependent on imports to acquire them. Addressing this dependence was a key motivation for their imperial expansion. Their ultimate defeat was a lesson that they'll just have to rely on trade for key resources, and they have prospered by accepting that since then, as long as the US shields them.

It's sure nice to be self-sufficient, and the US is in a better position for this than most countries, but nations have gone to war over exactly these concerns - not so much the inability to acquire key materials in trade, but the fear of being denied access. "I must conquer you because you might hurt me."

Incidentally, this ("I must conquer you because you might hurt me") is the entire logic of US interventionism abroad, to the extent it's not straight-out profiteering.

6
crazyjackel 6 points ago +6 / -0

Like most economic decisions, there is always a trade-off.

Being isolated and self-sufficient means denial of potential prosperity.

Being dependent means denial of control.

Countries should always strive to find the balancing point that works the best for them and their populace.

2
marishiten 2 points ago +2 / -0

The_Bloofy_Bullshark 5 points ago +5 / -0

Yeah, also the majority of new hires are contract workers who get paid $25-35/hr to write code (and also get swept up into having to do lab management, support work). These aren’t idiots too - I had a contractor who worked under me who was a legitimate genius. He would redesign things out of boredom because he felt they weren’t up to his standards. Significantly underpaid for what he did (same with the other members on his team). We had to fight to get the team a raise since it was pathetic what they were taking home ($25/hr).

Look no further than Canada. The worlds first post-nation state.

22
Crockett 22 points ago +22 / -0

I'm suddenly reminded of this Canadian I knew.

Total brainwashed leftist. Open borders, meritocracy is racist, all cultures are equivalent, any inequality necessarily proves discrimination because to suggest that anyone isn't as good at something for any reason is evil, national pride is evil, white people cause all the problems, (he was white, of course), all wealth is stolen from natives, Keynesian economics is proven flawless, everything, every leftist insanity worn on his sleeve without shame or doubt.

Only later did I find out that he wasn't even Canadian, he was from South Africa and moved to Canada before moving to San Francisco. He would call Nelson Mandela "Madiba" in casual conversation. He though being from South Africa made him an expert on the beauty of multiculturalism. He also thought that all of South Africa's modern strife is caused by evil nationalists ruining everything. That put him in such a new light. He wasn't merely Canadian, he was a true "citizen of the world" type. No pride in anything except his commitment to guilt-based multi-culturalism.

I'm haunted by the sincerity of his hateful and destructive beliefs, and how hateful he perceived all alternatives to be. He exuded disdain for anyone who disagreed, and since he thought his beliefs made him a nice guy, he didn't even try to be nice.

He was the most post-national person I've ever met, and one of the most politically detestable.

7
flybyninja 7 points ago +7 / -0

Been to South Africa. Watched 15 government workers (all black because that’s the only people who are hired by law) stand around a job site for 3 hours then go to lunch at 1130. Didn’t come back to work.

Found out later the road still hasn’t been fixed in 8 years. That was the norm.

3
julianleroux 3 points ago +3 / -0

He wasn't merely Canadian, he was a true "citizen of the world" type.

Strange then, that he didn't migrate to Ethiopia (which was never colonised by evil Europeans) or Liberia (literally created by freed American slaves).

200 countries to choose from, and he went with two of the richest regions in the world.

"Rules for thee but not for me" is the core belief of these people.

The number of legal immigrants (IMMIGRANTS, NOT H1B visas) is an almost insignificant number overall.

The amount of illegals in the nation that kill the wage rate is severely understated

23
MatthiasBlack 23 points ago +23 / -0

1 million a year for the last 55 years is not an insignificant number, especially when you consider their kids. I take it you haven't been in school for the last 20 years or this would be very noticeable in any town except for the most lily white suburbs.

6

It's not the bullshit 11 million either. It's upwards of 30, plus thousands crashing the border, chinese flying in anchor babies. It's ridiculous

21
colers 21 points ago +21 / -0

I really don't get why the social justice lunatics haven't correctly called out western migration policies as neocolonialism;

We singlehandedly demolished the innovation power of dozens of economies through a mix of contemptuous outsourcing, mass illegal migration and high-skill labor import.

Outsourcing guts the innovation power of an economy by making medium skill workers bankroll the innovation of other leaders, resulting in stagnant corporate branches that only serve to grow an office thousands of miles away from you and expansion into different nations than your.

Mass immigration is singlehandedly responsible for most countries having their wage growth rate detethered from the economic growth rate, with it pushing down some wages so low you literally can't compete legally anymore.

And high skill labor import is just the most blatant, attrocious form of neocolonialism you could think of. Hey, you know what Nigeria absolutely doesn't need? Doctors, nursus and engineers! I mean, yeah, we are basically assuring their entire education system has its return on investment gutted all but assuring they won't see proper funding anywhere in the next half century, and took the "developers" out of a developing nations while assuring thousands die due to the healthcare costs we purposely inflated to a luxery product! but hey, look at it from the positive side! Apple just got some dumb twat from Kenya who is a natural at microsystem engineering to sign up for a job in the US where he will earn the market bottom rate because he isn't in any position to bargain anyways even if he understood the market rates here :D

5
CucksForTheDonald 5 points ago +6 / -1

Hey, you know what Nigeria absolutely doesn't need? Doctors, nursus and engineers!

It's even more dastardly than that. What happens when a person with IQ 90 moves from a country with average IQ 80 to a country with average IQ 100?

Average IQ decreases in both countries.

8
colers 8 points ago +8 / -0

4
CucksForTheDonald 4 points ago +4 / -0

I mean, from an individual perspective, there shouldn't be a single soul on gods green earth that disagrees with the concept; why wouldn't you want to get the best you can within your capabilities to do so? From a societal perspective, its however utterly untenable.

Its just like here in the EU; everyone loves the idea they can move to another country with minimal administrative hassle. You wanna move to Spain to sit out your retirement? Sure, it will take you like 2 months to get the administrative side in order and you don't even have to renew your residential permit if you just naturalize at the end of your 5 years, and even if you did it would just be a quick visit to the town hall and 25 euros. Everyone however loathes the idea its a 2 way street, and that other people have that exact same privilege. You'll hear some Europhile praising how easy it is for him to just go on vacation in Austria, and the next sentence curse how difficult his work as a construction overseer has become after polish seasonal workers that barely speak english and don't speak the native tongue began to make up most of his workforce and that Romanian's that are renting from him should be evicted because they are living there with trice as much people as they should.

That’s why the Mexican president liked Trump. The promise of a closed US border does two things for Mexico. First, it creates a disincentive for migrant caravans from their south. Second, it keeps their most diligent and adventurous people at home.

1

Yes, the 50 year old pipefitter that is trying to get his kid through college is going to "learn to code" and get a razzle dazzle fantastic job in Silicon Valley and there's no way, that some H1B Visa girl from Ireland or Apou from Indian isn't going to work that same job for a lower wage and with less benefits.

Union workers have been voting themselves out of union jobs for the last 40 years. They have yet to realize, at least in the private sector, their union stewarts and reps, aren't doing what is best for the workers. They are doing what is best for the Democrat party. It's already the case in the U.S. that 90% of union jobs are government jobs or are forced by law (Bacon Davis Act) to contract with government. I often wonder, if it weren't for the Bacon Davis Act, if there would be any private sector unions in the U.S. at all anymore because they pretty much only work government jobs because they're priced out of in the private sector.

58
MRPfl 58 points ago +58 / -0

Agreed, President Trump was the best thing for US tradesman in years, the unions should have figured this out (some did). Open borders do nothing but allow unskilled cheap labor in the country for folks that want to exploit it.

29
ChuckedBeef 29 points ago +29 / -0

Problem is the heads of the unions are corrupt pieces of shit just like the heads of every other government agency and they don't give a fuck about what their workers want.

In this world, the shit rises to the top.

Union workers have been voting themselves out of union jobs for the last 40 years. They have yet to realize, at least in the private sector, their union stewarts and reps, aren't doing what is best for the workers.

I think the workers themselves are firmly voting right at this point. The leaders are in bed with the Democrats, but the rank and file doesn't seem to be.

72
HockeyMom4Trump 72 points ago +72 / -0

If the government ever shuts down again I better not hear one word about how they are struggling after being out of work a few weeks...remember how that would work? They would shut down government and then we would hear sob story after sob story about them not working a few weeks. Nevermind they would not work but still get to receive back pay. After the crap they have pulled this year with shutting down businesses, and now this, they are never again allowed to complain.

lol those pesky $100k a year temporary jobs

31
jtt888 31 points ago +32 / -1

Temporary, as in jobs as long as the pipeline was being built. Not temporary like a 20 hour a week temp. Just temporary full time jobs like most construction jobs over multiple years.

20
illiteregetimate 20 points ago +20 / -0

Yup. The kind of “temporary” that puts six figures into middle class households. Not $9.75/hour doing gig work or pouring lattés.

I’m disgusted.

11
Chelsea_hubbell 11 points ago +11 / -0

Those “temporary” jobs pay 100-200k+ a year. For the same person getting a local blue collar job, that salary is 4-8x they would get elsewhere. The energy blue collar jobs can be life changing for those willing to accept what goes along with them. (Weeks away from family, etc)

Well, you could always learn to play concert violin for a living if coding does not work out.

11
preferredfault 11 points ago +11 / -0

Learning to be a pilot is easier than learning to code. While a lot of "coding" done today is just already existing libraries and code being mish mashed together, you have to actually understand the code itself to know how to mish mash it. And when you don't have a library to work with, or need extra code to make the libraries work together......you need to know how to code. So there's different levels to the job, but the base level is that you need to know how to code from scratch if need be. Not to mention coding languages change all the time. You have to constantly retool your coding ability to a new coding language, and know several of them at once. Not to mention all of that requires a pre-existing knowledge of the underlying architecture and hardware. Coding isn't something you just learn and then you're set. Coding requires a constant learning of new languages and methods and awareness of new hardware. And all of that, for peanuts pay.

And the more complex systems get, the harder it gets to code, the more bugs there are to fix. I don't realistically see any significant number of people in the 30+ age range, being able to retool their abilities to learn to code. And even if they did, then you'd just have an over saturation of coders. Not to mention that coding typically isn't a forever job, you're constantly changing employers, because coding is largely done as a per-project job. Which means highly varied and unsteady income. You might be helping to code a phone app for a few months, then coding for a gaming company for a few months, then coding for some other software program. All different clients, vastly different needs, using vastly different hardware focus.

We don't have a shortage of coders. So adding even more would just make the market over saturated and the pay even more terrible, with a lot of effort.

Most jobs, you might learn as you go a bit over the years, but they don't require you to completely retool to keep the same job. If you fix up houses, paint, drywall, put in floors, etc.....that doesn't require you to be in a constant state of learning new things, and even when you learn new things, they're not very complex, so acceptable. But for programming, it's like "ok now you have to learn how to build a house in a completely different way in order to keep your job, because we don't use the old way anymore" every few years or less, and that kind of change happens regularly in the coding field.

People simply aren't made for jobs that require constant ground up changes in their requirements that require essentially learning a whole new field over and over.

justwow 2 points ago +2 / -0

2
Weloveflyovercountry 2 points ago +2 / -0

a little known fact is that amphetamine use is rampant among computer programmers, those that arent are on the aspergers/autism spectrum ...most people dont like the idea of becoming meth addicts to start a new career even if they could learn to code.

Export all manufacturing till you cant support a family on that either

Import the 2nd world for all the skilled positions, because they work for less, making the bottom drop out of the market until eventual it makes no money anymore.

Make the places where you can work have a cost of living so high you cannot live with a family on your salary

I emigrated from the Netherlands to Norway myself, but I might do so again in the future... we live in a dark world these days. And a light that was rekindled again went out in the US. I just hope it flicks back to life.. or that this happens to the now smouldering remains of the light we once had in Europe.

Norway is still okay, so far.

2
Weloveflyovercountry 2 points ago +2 / -0

maybe because norway is not a member of the EU?

2
Alienus 2 points ago +2 / -0

ding ding ding

  • They can close shops on sundays.
  • Labor costs are higher (meaning people earn decent wages)
  • Importing things can be very expensive to Norway, meaning the local economy takes precedence in most things where it can.
  • There is less imigration, and unlike other EU nations, you can come here, but only if you can prove that you can support yourself and/or get a job to do so.
  • Norway pays subsantially less money to the EU than most member states
  • Norway has a larger degree of independence
  • Norway to a large degree has much more sovereignty
  • Norway is capable of closing its borders when it needs to

Some of these things fall in the category of "protectionism" which is a thing I was pretty much taught in school was "bad" and is not how the EU works.

However, it is good, because it works against globalism, stops needless consumerism; which is almost like a disease at times, stimulated by large international businesses.
