I think they both genuinely believe the things they say, so grifting is the wrong term. Lin Wood seems to not understand that some of his sources are completely delusional and some of his other sources are receiving bad information despite being very credible themselves.
I think people are too hard on Sidney Powell though. Her Kraken may not have gone anywhere, but that was just another instance of the judiciary being cowardly and corrupt. There was absolutely enough evidence in her filings to start a serious investigation. Sure, maybe her filings were rushed (though I think the one that people made fun of was a preliminary draft) and maybe her claims were too broad, but none of it was baseless and I don't think there's really a problem with pursuing multiple angles of this massive crime in parallel.
