My family has a lot of apple products. When they die, we will not be replacing them w other Apple products. Fuck them!

DangleBarry 21 points ago +21 / -0

I wouldn't replace my family with Apple products either.

Idk if samsung is based at all but at least their stuff is made in Korea instead of China.

Buy and throw mentality has done a lot of damage to how everything is done. Our grandparents would be shocked at such waste

Carried over to human beings.

Smartphone manufacturers in general have been trending towards making them more difficult to disassemble and repair.
I'm certain that was actually the main reason for the trend towards water resistance, and non-removable batteries. It's about sealing and gluing their phones together, instead of making all the components easily accessible.

Ivleeeg 1 point ago +1 / -0

There's not really a better method right now. The rapid change of technology leaves a lot of waste.

2
TotallyARussianBot 2 points ago +2 / -0

Rapid advancement yes, Rabid planned obsoleting and large scale attacks at fixing people fixing their private property. No.

Combine there rapid anti fix with intentional design flaws and we have brand new stuff that doesn't last as long as the older model

Thats the real fuckin problem here

Semmelweis 10 points ago +10 / -0

Soldered RAM, permanent bond glue on batteries, custom self nuking ROMs, and now "you cannot replace that camera, it is a vital component!"

Can you root iPhones?

2
cook_does 2 points ago +2 / -0

No

This is literally the storyline of the kids movie Robots where the bad guy (Greg Kinnear) makes it illegal to repair things, you can only buy new, and the robots who can’t afford new parts become outcasts but eventually there are too many of them and they rise up and with the help of the Ewan MacGregor and Robin Williams robots they overthrow the evil CEO robot, who it turns out, was really being controlled by his wicked mother (played by Jim broadbent)

(my kids have this dvd in the car so I basically have it memorized 🤣)

When it costs $100 for third party to replace the screen but Apple charges $225, it’s time to get out of the scam.

MuhSoy 5 points ago +5 / -0

Tim Cuck. I’ll never buy anything Apple again, and I’m due for a new phone soon...

Barron2040 4 points ago +4 / -0

Can’t get an Android either. They are owned by Google. So no iPhone, no Android.. What are you gonna get? Do they still make Blackberries?

2
TommyLasordasBallBag 2 points ago +2 / -0

At least with Google you have open source so you can nuke most of their data gathering shit off and have a bare bones OS.. at least before 11. Haven't looked into it yet with the new update.

1
Knowbody 1 point ago +1 / -0

As long as the bootloader is unlockable you can still install your own ROM.

1
Barron2040 1 point ago +1 / -0

You can jailbreak and iPhone and make it do anything you want. You can put Android OS on a jail broken iPhone. I saw a video where a guy actually got Windows XP to run on an iPhone.

1
MuhSoy 1 point ago +1 / -0

I have no idea. It totally sucks.

1
DarkDrai 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes. Check out the "Blackberry Key2".

PiPhone for the tech savoy pedes

1
MuhSoy 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah, while i support all of their efforts & future breakthroughs, that's so over my head.

Consider Purism. My next phone will be Librem 5. Either the regular or the USA one. Everything is screwed together, everything is replaceable.

2
randomusers239874 2 points ago +2 / -0

I have one, unfortunately it's not really that good, it's definitely "first try" quality. However, I bought it to support the idea, not for the phone itself, so hopefully the next version is better.

2
ineX0r2 2 points ago +2 / -0

Interesting! What's not good about it? Materials/build quality, screen function, OS?

SUPPORT LOUIS ROSSMAN IN HIS FIGHT AGAINST APPLE AND FOR RIGHT OT REPAIR. HE IS GREAT

2
cook_does 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ducking Louis has been tongue in cheek bashing Trump or the “current admin” in numerous streams. He can jump in a lake of waste materials from Chinese sweat shops for all I care.

2
milonie 2 points ago +2 / -0

really? what did he say?

4
IsrorOrca 4 points ago +4 / -0

It’s not just Apple. A lot of places including healthcare are doing this; forcing 3rd party resellers our and forcing consumers to buy new. Not even allowing donations.

3
daveyistheman 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yes, PLEASE don't buy apple again. This macbook is the last apple product I ever buy.

Look up Louis Rossman on youtube. He is an apple repair guy and constantly says how shitty apple is with right to repair.

3
Semmelweis 3 points ago +3 / -0

We have to focus on the new product, the iRan!

Omg how have I never seen this. I can’t believe this is still appropriate 13 years later

KOMMISSARofMAGA 3 points ago +3 / -0

I liked this post... on my iPhone

2
BladeDragon85 2 points ago +2 / -0

My Corsair K70 cord developed a short right where it enters the keyboard. Corsair doesn't sell replacement cords, after a bit of looking around I found someone selling the cord online. Once I got the cord I had it repaired in like 15 mins, keyboard works as good as new now.

Screw all these anti-repair corporations, be they direct like Apple or indirect like Corsair by not offering parts.

MetalRiddle 2 points ago +2 / -0

Buying an iPhone is kind of like voting for Biden.

2
entwickelnden 2 points ago +2 / -0

apple hates the environment.

2
defiant_liberty 2 points ago +2 / -0

The android products are less expensive, less vendor lock in, just as easy to use, and have more apps available. At this point it doesn't make sense to use crapple, other than that android is googles baby, and google is shit too. But the thing is, most of andriod is open source, so it doesn't matter what the fuck google thinks.

2
Hanging_Chad 2 points ago +2 / -0

Link for the last sentence?

2
leon_06 2 points ago +2 / -0

Only one iphone was worth it iphone 4 and 4s . After that disaster started , screw em. The price tag is majorly brand value no value to the actual device.

1
moi1 1 point ago +1 / -0

Google is just as bad and so is Microsoft.

We have to wait for new competitors to rise from the ashes of this election.

1
TotallyARussianBot 1 point ago +1 / -0

Wait? Find the alternatives and support them now

1
PatriotGabriel 1 point ago +1 / -0

Why wouldn't apple sell its own refurbished phones? Selling a phone twice sounds like a really easy way to make more money

1
GenericInsult [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

So they don't have to worry about backward compatibility. That, and they make more money on new phones.

1
Ham_Sandwich77 1 point ago +2 / -1

Yeah, they've been caught building planned obsolescence into their devices numerous times, like engineering batteries to become useless after a couple of years, and programming older iphones to slow down. They are scoundrels of the highest order.

1
BlackLivesMurder 1 point ago +1 / -0

If you own anything Apple you shouldn't even call yourself a patriot.

1
PillarOfWisdom 1 point ago +1 / -0

So we should buy Google products? What are the options?

0
Barron2040 0 points ago +1 / -1

Yeah and Android is Google so if you own an Android you’re part of the problem too.

1
Knowbody 1 point ago +1 / -0

At least it's possible to install a third party ROM on most android phones. That's a million percent better than the walled garden of iPhones.
