It pisses me off because I worked and struggled through college. It took me 10 years after graduating to pay off the loans. People don’t have to borrow $60,000 to get an education. If they’re borrowing that much they are either paying out of state tuition or else paying fraternity/ sorority dues or living more extravagantly than they should be.
Room and board and living expenses account for more than the tuition. Why not live at home the first 2 years and get then transfer? know a lot of college age kids and none of them live in dorms. Even freshmen live in new, luxury apartments where each person has their own room with en suite bathroom and lots of community amenities and paying $2000 per month per person.
There was one kid I knew who got a $1 million dollar scholarship solely because he played soccer. There’s another kid I know who went onto become a famous scholar player.
Anyway, it’s so bullshit. Imagine giving $1 million out for soccer! 🤣 I know that’s a scholarship, but it’s hard to take college seriously.
Anyways, I totally agree with you. That’s the thing though. Most of these people who take these loans do it cause they want the “college experience” and get a degree for the sake of having one so their parents don’t heckle them. Most low income families (and poverty) most of the time are the ones who aren’t going to college, it’s usually the middle class families and high class. They are so use to everything handed to them, they lack financial irresponsibility and basic common sense. Most of them spend their time partying and being stupid, cause they want that experience.

That’s so true about the luxury apartments.
Another way to put it - it's a bank bailout.
