Through hard work, smart planning and investments, my parents were able to put three children through the schools of their choice, debt free. They do well, but not like I grew up “rich”. Drove modest cars, didn’t take fancy vacations, etc. Had to prioritize and sacrifice where necessary, and I’m incredibly gratef for it. I realize it’s easier said than done, but it’s an enormous feat, and they accomplished it. All the while paying confiscatory fed, state, and local taxes
For the $500-$750k, they could have bought matching ferraris, a beach house, or any number of niceties. Instead, they spent it on educating their children.
So I resent the idea of “free” college or significant debt forgiveness, because it diminishes a significant achievement, and comes as a slap in the face. Will they get any of that money back? Hell no. Should they have bought matching ferraris instead? No, but under the left’s plan, maybe that would have been the move.
Oh and to add insult to injury, raise taxes on my parents so somebody else’s college can be “free”.
