M1A1s are too heavy for Taiwan and they guzzle fuel like crazy. Smaller light tanks are actually better in some respects. However, the entire strategy basically revolves around keeping the PLA offshore by sinking their entire blue water navy. If the US doesn't act Japan will (for its own survival).
