You seem to be implying that it was ridiculous back then. It wasn't. What WAS ridiculous was the South thinking that they could win, without cannon factories and heavy industry to back them. Plus, no navy.

I'm not. What I'm referring to is people today saying secession as an option today is ridiculous because of the outcome from the civil war back then.
Frankly, I don't think either of them are ridiculous.
