You cannot find one single political battle of the past 170 years that conservatives have actually won.
The names "progressives" and "conservatives" say it all. Progressives are not stagnant, but rather on the march to take your shit. Conservatives are by definition holding a purely defensive position that is under assault.
Conservatives are the guys who just want to go to their lake house and make sure their kids go to college and be left alone for the most part. They cower to the left because they hope if they keep their head down, then maybe their 401K won't be too badly damaged and maybe if they are nice and try to appease the left, then the communists might be nice to them and eat them last.
Conservatives are not in the business of winning. They are in the business of losing, and winning to conservatives generally means just losing more slowly.
This is why conservatives are able to give money to the NRA as the NRA sells out our gun rights.
Then we aren't losing slowly. We just haven't won yet.
