Accidents only, which my result in death, but I think in most but not all cases it can be distinguished.

TL;DR - I don't think you'll get a good answer because of covid. Accidents will likely be blamed on things other than sheer ineptitude.


So I did some quick searching/reading and boy is this a maze of twisty little passages, all alike, but a couple of articles of interest that I found...

This one has a few stats for 2020 through October or so and there** is** a spike in "accidents" due, they claim, to lockdowns:

This is a 2016 article (from what I think is some leftist rag) -- skip past all of the quizzes to get to the meat -- that suggests classification is kind of up to the coroner, and of particular interest is the CDC ends up parsing all of the data. So I guess, ultimately, unless you hunt down the primary sources, the answer to your question is about as reliable as you believe the CDC to be:
