Committe seats, without them a congressman is basicllay shouting into the void. Nothing he does goes anywhere, his bills are'nt considered.
Re-election funding. The GOP will actually promote and fund a primary challenge agaisnt congreessmen who dont toe the line. and if he wins his primary anyway, the GOP will arrange with the Democrats to vote for the GOP guy in the general/runoff
this happened in a runoff in misisspi daniels vs cochran and in alaska with lisa murkowski she lost the primary and just ran in the general anyway.
This kind of fuckery ensures that the good guys get ran out of DC, and the okay ones stupidly join the GOP to work from the inside, but they always get swalloed by the swamp. Witness every single Tea Party candidate.
Don’t disagree with anything you write about the current state of the party. Things have become more serious since the Tea Party, though, and I think a lot more people realize it. Maybe I’m too optimistic, but I think 74 million (probably plus) Americans can make a difference. We have to take the party over from the ground up. Take a lesson from how they co-opted the Tea Party and learn from it. What we can’t do is accept defeat and roll over. We can beat these assholes. Why should we not?
