Shocked people didn't do this a few years ago already. If your "friends" can't find a way to talk to you outside of Fakebook, they weren't your real friends anyways.
Federated social media, powered by free software, and managed by users is the best thing. Any privately owned social media site can turn against its users.

I made an account about 7 years ago and deleted it a week later
I got peer pressured into it years ago. When I saw all the normies joining it before me, I knew it was stupid.
Deleted mine. Was harder than I thought it would be. Clean break though.
Ha! I loved how they made me wait for several days. No idea if they actually "deleted" anything though.
I burned my facebook because I had tried to leave before. Or rather I lit the fuse and walked away. It's still there, hoping I'll come back.
