I have tried to cut out carbs/sugar from my diet. Couldn't deal with the carb cravings and low energy. On other matters, I recently overdosed on Hopium, then had to ease myself off with Copium. Now I'm on a regular regime on Mopium, but just like with sugar, I know that once I get a little taste of Hopium, I'll be right back on that wagon again.
Yea, I found sugar tastes nasty if you stop eating carbs for a while, like I can taste it in anything I buy that has loaded sugar in it. Besides that lower energy in some cases at first but got over it.
I drank 4 green monsters a day through all of my 20's. I was relatively fit being in the Infantry at the time. Started a corporate job 5 years ago and stopped drinking that shit. I can't handle sugar now. It's too much. If I didn't drink beer I would be skinny right now.
This year I've learned I don't need sugar or caffeine just to get up to work. Long hot showers are way better.

Keto for me, just because I simply do not need the carbs. When I eat anything with sugar in it, it is an immediate 3/4 pound gain.
