I used the word if because I don't know what Trump may eventually want to do. For all we know, he may want to purge all of the RINOs out instead of starting a new party from scratch.
The fact of the matter is the GOP is still the party of Lincoln (like how the Democratic Party is the party of the KKK even though the left tries to paint all Trump supporters and the GOP in general as racist). He may not want to hand Lincoln's party to the uniparty if he can help it.
The party don't mean shit, its the ideals it once stood for that are important. The corrupt swamp can keep that dusty old name. If Lincoln found reason to form his own party perhaps we too have come to such an impasse.
The Republicans arose after the Whig party ceased to exist. I'm not beholden to "Republican" as a brand name, but a 3rd party isn't viable. The only way is to either retake the republican party or replace them after they die, a Patriot party competing with Republicans and Democrats is a death sentence.
