It's gotta be way more than $2b
$2b was what had been paid out by the insurance companies at the time the story first emerged. Most business polices have a rioting exclusion and it was at the height of the lock down so millions of business's had let their policy lapse.
The actual damages are far higher then $2 billion
There are several articles online estimating the cost. The latest ones I could find were published around September.
