My country just had a presidential election where the far right (he's not btw) candidate went from having 60k to 500k votes in a year and these votes generally came from areas in the interior, left wing areas of working class people and farmers who have traditionally voted for the communist party for years.
We are now seeing the coastal elites of Lisbon and Porto starting to insult them instead of addressing their concerns and why did they radically shifted their vote preferences.
This is how everything started in america right? Do these people never learn or is it on purpose?

I honestly think that some people in the world live in what I call here in the USA a "freedom bubble."
They are born into a family that is well off and they literally do not understand how other people think.
They go to their private schools where everyone and every family generally think the same, so they don't believe people actually murder other people, or that people actually commit crimes.
I remember watching a video last year of this guy who was recording a bunch of kids at a protest and one of the kids ran up, stole the guy's phone and ran away as fast as possible.
The guy stood there as if it was all a joke and the kid was going to come back with his phone.
Needless to say, the kid never came back with the phone and the guy just couldn't believe it.
These are the type of people that think everything is a LARP in life and that "real life" doesn't actually exist.
I have concluded to call it a "freedom bubble," but it is interesting to know that it happens everywhere else as well.
Anyways, my point is that these "elites" live a life that is extremely disconnected from actual working class people, but the fact of the matter is that the elites have been able to brainwash these "lefties" for so long that they eventually start to take it for granted.
Similar to here in the states, the left wing media and left wing politicians are easily able to persuade the lefties into believing they are the good guys and anyone that does not agree are racists, terrorists, etc.
However, like you said, more and more people get tired of it. This is how Trump won in 2016.
They either did not try to cheat as bad as they did in 2020, or they took their voters for granted because the voters will vote for them no matter what.
I actually think it was a combination of "right wing" voters not trusting the process anymore (up until 2016), Trump being Trump, voting fraud and Dems taking their voters for granted.
There was a massive amount of Democrats who changed to supporting Trump this election cycle here in the states simply because of what seems to be happening where you live - the elites simply going insane and taking for granted the people.
They see people as an object or a tool to get what they want rather than humans trying to live their lives.
The disconnect here between the elites and actual normal humans who wake up at six and fall asleep at 10 is insane too.
Although voter fraud is basically non existant in European elections (small scale bs with voter registration).
This is happening worldwide it seems.
Our election maps (north vs south) still look nothing like they do in america (rural vs urban) but we are going in that direction.
It's blue haired college retards in the city vs farmers working class people on the interior.
Some peopke still cannot fathom why actual people want a politian who addresses their concerns and doesn't spend his time stroking his billionair donors.
He went from 1 to 11% in a year.
Exciting times ahead, our communist lands led the charge.
There was a similar dynamic in the US. There was a pre-existing perception among some of the population that their interests were not being represented, and their beliefs were not being respected by political elite.
Rather than try to bridge the divide, the gap was magnified further for several years with comments by politicians and media pundits that were derogatory and dismissive - for example "they don't know what's best for them and are voting against their own interests". The process continued with the power of MSM and social media. Extreme polarization and even full blown propaganda were the result.
This is exactly what is happening, I have a family where this party reached 19% of the vote when they got 2% just a year ago and the way these people have been treated on tv and on social media is perfectly described in the statement you gave above.
