You are right about ideology being the first ingredient before ethnicity. A nation has more political basis than an ethnic basis but It is maintained through the ethnic basis. the ethnic basis of a nation becomes more relevant over time than the political basis.

Not so, if the basis is political, all that is required to maintain unity is to indoctrinate the people and purge dissent (I'm not using these words hyperbolically).

Ethnic unity can only be maintained if it is taught and reinforced consistently as mentioned above, but it is not required for unity.

what will you say about the dissolved states of the USSR? They built their Nations around their ethnic groups. Politics wouldn't be enough if two or more groups have cultures that contradict each other.

A lot of African Nations are built around politics or Ideology and they still run into the same problems. Many of these Nations have poor social cohesion.

I never spoke about multiculturalism. I don't believe it works. The only thing that works is assimilation into the established culture and abandoning all prior cultural beliefs.
