I'm a hypnotist. I've studied and practiced for more than 20 years now.
The very first lesson one learns about hypnosis is that there are five paths that can be used to bypass the critical factor - the decision-making part of the brain.
Monotonous repetition
Peer pressure - Our subconscious tendency to imitate those we identify with.
Appeal from authority - Parents, teachers, doctors, clergy, elected officials, maybe even anchorman (well, maybe back in the days of Cronkite)
Highly emotional state
Altered state of consciousness - This can be anything from hypnotic induction to a change in the pattern of our brain waves brought about by the other four. It could also include the overload of input. Our conscious minds can juggle about 7 different ideas at a time before we get confused and our subconscious grabs the first thing that offers stability or makes sense.
The goal is to bundle these thoughts into a single act that we often call, "muscle memory". But, until that happens, often we become overwhelmed.
TV commercials are good at using all 5 of these in a single 30 second spot.
TIL, that I’ve been mentally fortifying myself against hypnosis for my whole life.
I can’t handle monotony, I have to find something else to hold my attention.
I’ve been bucking trends of my peers so long that I don’t know how to be peer pressured.
I don’t see anyone as a true authority. If you can’t explain it to me, I’m not gonna follow.
While I can react emotionally, I’ve worked on not making decisions emotionally. Usually that means trying to calm down before I move on.
My mind is constantly juggling thoughts and ideas, it’s not an altered state for me.
This does explain why I was not able to be hypnotized on stage a few years back. They even tried the altered state thing with flashing lights. It did effect me, but not enough to grant control. I really wanted it to work too.
Same here...and I bet you were constantly bombarded with negatives for not being a good little sheep. Truth is the only way..if you don't have truth, don't come to me or speak to me or mine. Most people think I'm an asshole because I won't lie to you or sugar coat my shit and call it Sugar Daddies..you ask my opinion or lie in my presence and you will get called out. I'm sure that good little minions think we're missing out on life because of this trait, but I believe that an honest life and honest friends are far more important than being a fool surrounded by fools.
Yes!
"If you can't explain it to me, I'm not gonna follow." is right on the money.
I don't look up to many people. I have practically no heroes; I recognize them all as human beings that have pretty significant flaws. Only person/entity I grant authority over me to is God/Jesus. Everyone else is my equal; same? no, but equal rights, responsibilities, and autonomy.
Our society pressures and pushes for idolization and obedience to figures of apparent authority. It also pushes for the removal of personal responsibility (and by extension, denial of self-control and free will). This cycles and compounds to drive a narrative of people being controlled by their idolized figures of authority, whom have done nothing to make them worthy of such, and frankly should be abhorred instead.
This is the key to Marxism - Critical Theory. Even Wikipedia has trouble describing it positively; "Critical theory... argues that social problems are influenced and created more by societal structures and cultural assumptions than by individual and psychological factors."; and in the criticism section: "A primary criticism of the theory is that it is anti-scientific, both for its lack of the use of the scientific method, and for its overt criticism of science as a tool used for oppression of marginalized groups of people."
My interpretation of this is basically that they're saying society controls people much more than people control themselves (or are influenced by those immediately around them like family or friends). Obviously, that's bullshit, but people that believe that can act in ways to make it true for themselves.
Amplify that with Big Tech controlled Digital Bot Mobs that pretend to be the majority to peer pressure, silence any opposition with downvotes or bans to repeat monotonous repetition, promote and provide fake support for fake emotional outrage, etc.
Then those who have eaten the brainwashing sandwich go out and spew the same lies so that they "fit in" with their digital bot brethren becoming a real voice in the sea of fake ones thinking they are arguing their own views.
How would different sounds or music come into play with this? Would it fall under altered states of consciousness or affecting the emotional state? Or 1,2, and 3?
I think that would fall into altered consciousness. Check out some Adnan Oktar (Turkish cult leader, has since been arrested) videos where he uses music at different points during his lectures and his audience of “kittens” all start bobbing their heads.
Oktar got arrested along with some number of his followers. Apparently he had a blackmailing operation going on with the “kittens” and government officials/politicians. But it sounds like the purpose of the blackmailing was to get the targets to support “creationism” (his cult ideology) and gain random power for Oktar.
Sorry it has taken me so long to read your question. I have been away.
Flashing lights, and music could induce an altered state of consciousness by getting your brainwaves to fall into a rhythm. Certain external and internal stimuli can be used to trigger Alpha, Beta, or Theta waves in your brain.
I'm not trying to slam religion in any way when I point out that such practices are pretty common in religious rituals all across the world throughout history. Singing, dancing, chanting, and litany are pretty common for a reason.
Sowell is really good at stating things concisely like this.
I’m pretty sure he has high functioning autism which is why he just tells people stuff regardless of whether they think it’s socially acceptable or not. And of course that’s why the Marxists hate him because he will just tell them when they’re full of BS.
That is such a duplicitous statement that I keep hearing ad nauseam from the left! First, how can you substantiate that claim if you don't investigate the voter fraud allegations?
Even if the presented evidence was not enough to change the election results, that does not mean you suddenly forget about the voter fraud that did occur.
Plus, the point is that in the 2020 election, being able to invalidate say ~10K votes in a handful of counties would have been enough to change the outcome.
And notice they never hit back on the "legal" arguments about how AG's broke the law in how they accepted and processed mail-in ballots. It's always to simply brow beat you into submission with things like, "C'mon you don't honestly believe there was widespread fraud do you? Only morons believe that! Everyone knows this was the most secure election we've ever had in this country!"
And that's when you realize you can't argue with stupid. Which is why the COURTS should have stepped in and put their foot down.
People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.
And in an intentional break of Godwin’s law: that’s what Hitler called “the big lie”. You tell a big lie, the bigger the better, and you repeat it over and over until it becomes accepted as fact.
Yet they replaced math with common core math, so instead of learning to rattle off the basics by repetition, they are trying to teach math philosophy in elementary school. They know repetition works - our kids need us to pay attention to their schooling so they don't come out dumb from a system that's designed for it.

Yeah. Wow. That is certainly unnerving. Those women are creepy.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Makes a whole lot of sense.
That's cult behavior too, isn't it?

I’ve thought that as well. Dude is a freak genius, and does seem spergy at times. Gotta love that weaponized autism.
There's no evidence of enough voter fraud to change the outcome of the election, so we shouldn't even bother to look into it!
That's just basic truth over facts, folks!
Ok Mr. Barr

Sowell is the original Pede OG. The smartest guy in the room and then some!!! Live forever Thomas.
God bless him. He is a national treasure. I'd definitely back him for a run for office. don't think He`d like it though...
Why should he limit his power? Running for office would put him under more restrictions.
Repetition is a core essence of propaganda.
People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Things I'm old enough have been conditioned to believe:
Don't forget:
George Stephanopolous in that interview with Rand.
Dude literally stopped him to repeat a point that Rand had previously dismantled.
Yet they replaced math with common core math, so instead of learning to rattle off the basics by repetition, they are trying to teach math philosophy in elementary school. They know repetition works - our kids need us to pay attention to their schooling so they don't come out dumb from a system that's designed for it.
Gosh y'all make me sick... Posting up tweets from a KNOWN WhItEsUpReMiCist!
lmao.. but for real. Thomas Sowell is a treasure.
Mockingbird is the term from Hunger Games.
Are they so confident they'll be able to turn us into a dystopia that they're saying it openly now!??!?!
This man is so wise and has an amazing ability to say things powerfully and succinctly.
