It was planned to shut down loading stations for electric cars and geothermal pumps and stuff (by smart meters) in case of an grid-critical overload.
The standard housings are not equipped with smart meters by now and it will take years to realize that.
It is not possible to switch power off just in Germany, because we are part of the "Europäisches-Verbundnetz" = European wide power grid system, which reaches wide into eastern Europe as well.
Finally: There's no question, that we are driven against the wall by some weird lunatics.
Seeing the locals show up to read the power meter, to guestimate the monthly payments for the year was comical. We've had smart meters in the US for a long time now, and they work in a mesh configuration to report back usage. They also read if you're generating power for the grid to use (solar panels feeding back, you get credited 1kW to 1kW on your bill).
It's impressive to see all the windmills, til you realize half of them aren't spinning, least where I'm at.
To make it a little bit more transparent:

But we luckily have not arrived by now ;)

How’s that European fusion reactor project going? Seems like someone started building something they didn’t know how to build....
