Get a Tesla if you can afford upfront cost... it will be cheaper than gas in the long run, and it is just plain awesome. Plus you save time and money on virtually no maintenance
Until they jack up your electricity rates, that is. Unless you are using solar panels to charge your car, you aren't going to be able to escape their clutches.
This. I can't believe so many people think electricity is just magic stuff that comes out of the wall. Coal-powered electric plants are on the chopping block. Envirofascists believe hydroelectric is bad for the ecosystem, wind and solar are really not that good for large-scale power (and they're made in Chyna), and forget nuclear power. Commiefornia regularly has rolling blackouts. That's not to mention the vulnerabilities in the power grids that can be exploited at any time the ds chooses. That infinite magic stuff coming out of the wall may not be around for much longer, and certainly not at the rates we currently take for granted.
I've already got bicycles and horses, and I'm looking into getting an old diesel truck and using part of my land to grow appropriate things to make biodiesel. It may sound crazy, but who would have predicted 2020 in 2019?
I'd rather get my power from a wood-fired furnace. They're easier to maintain, aren't impossible to replace parts from if the system collapses, I can always find or grow wood for it, and they keep me physically active.
Pretty hard to haul firewood, hay, and manure in the back of a Tesla. Pretty sure the current models don't haul horse trailers or carry tack very well.
(Yes, I've heard of the Cybertruck. No, it's not out yet, and I'm not holding my breath waiting for it, either.)

At least you have the option to go solar. More self sufficient the better. I’m going to go solar as well as grow my own food

Oh yeah definitely agree Tesla has no good truck replacement. I think the cyber truck will be great candidate though.
