Maybe they're claiming that, but I suspect the underlying reason is far more basic: CBS paid through the ass for the super bowl years ago before BLM was a thing, they need to keep prices high for ads to get their money back. However thanks to the hand egg joggers little social justice temper tantrum nobody with money actually wants to watch the super bowl, so the ROI simply isn't there for Pepsi and Coke.

That’s my thinking. It’s not that they are worried about offending anyone (lord knows they’ve never given a shit about offending conservatives). It’s all about the money.

If I were CBS, I'd sue the NFL for deliberately alienating the audience. Surely the contract between CBS and the NFL has some clause about the NFL grossly mismanaging the league and causing people to stop watching in droves.
