Trail of Tears is misrepresented in a one sided light. Jackson had to deport them due to escalating conflicts between native and American populations. Some of the massacres leading up to it would make modern war crimes look downright polite. He could have systematically eradicated them, but instead chose a less murderous path.

Forcing a group of people across the country is by today's standards reprehensible, but for Jackson it was either that or all-out war.
