I just wanna chime in on this, as I have some local knowlege of the project, and basically gonna re-state something I've already said on this site.

There is some very real resistance to the pipeline on local levels in some of these states. It is being painted as a bunch of democrats saving the environment, which isn't the case.

Much of the resistance locally is from die hard republicans flying the Gadsden flag, not interested in a foreign entity using their land for private profit. All of these people understand the need for highways and infrastructure, but they also feel like the government is acting in a tyrannical fashion in this instance. It's very much a libertarian "get off of my property" mindset.

That being said, the resistance is very strong, clear up to county supervisor levels. The project and its approval progress has not been good for as long as Trump was in the white house. I'm not saying he had anything to do with it. I'm just saying Biden is not the sole reason this pipeline isn't complete, and the democrats are taking this as a win, when it's really and truly god fearing rural farmers and ranchers that have put a stop to this, because god damnit, it's their property and "y'all" can fuck off. (Y'all being Transcanada)

honest question: without the media attention and focus, how many would really care or even know about it?

How many of them could have sold property to the pipreline at a significant gain?

This is also ypur experience in one state or maybe even one county while the pipeline runs right thru miltiple states. Do you think oppostition is the same acrooss all those states?

The route the pipeline takes is through bum fuck egypt middle of nowhere, for all intents and purposes. Nobody will even know it's out there. The democrats have hijacked the issue as an environmental fight and will claim stoppage of the project as a win, when it's mostly, as I said, a landowners rights issue.

How many of them could have sold property to the pipreline at a significant gain?

That's the issue. The property isn't being sold. You have to sign an easement that allows transcanada to do basically whatever they want to in a certain width for the length that the pipe crosses your property. Landowners retain ownership, but it's forever marred by the pipe transcanada will not remove once it is abandoned.

I honestly can't say what the dollar amount is as far as what they are given per acre. Some folks took the money, others have not. The folks that have taken the money are grumbled at by the folks that are continuing to fight. Now that the pipeline will likely not be constructed, it will further drive a wedge between the people that took the money and the people that still are fighting. It's like they got paid to sell out and then didn't have to actually give anything to transcanada in the end, if you understand what I mean.

This is also your experience in one state or maybe even one county while the pipeline runs right thru miltiple states. Do you think oppostition is the same acrooss all those states?

I don't think the opposition is similar across all states, mainly because many of the other states have historically had more oil and gas development than mine. That and most of the other states have water tables that aren't as accessible or sensitive.

Also, as someone who's had people do petrol work on their land, they don't leave it clean. If you can make a stack off of it it's fine, but if they aren't paying you enough to ruin your land (and they will, and then tell you they didn't and tell you to fuck off).

OTOH, everyone I've dealt with has paid more than enough to cover the land they've fucked up so IDK
