The original proposed 13th amendment added to the emoluments clause, and said the penalty for being a lawyer was the revokation of American citizenship. Lawyers at the time were all "members of British nobility" of the lowest rank, Esquire.
Lawyers are essential to establishing an illegal nobility inside a nation. They want regular people to be totally lost when it comes to the law, that way they can make the real law whatever they say it is.

If it wasn't passed, Virginia could still pass it. After the civil war, records of the original 13th were lost or destroyed, but retained in the library of Congress.
