Some people try to defend what the FBI did, but there is no way to rationalize this fact.
The United States Government sent tanks to attack a building that THEY KNEW was full of innocent women, children and elderly citizens of this country. Citizens that had rights, rights endowed by their creator, from God, not from the government.
THEY KNEW.
It does not matter what happened leading up to it. It does not matter what Koresh might have done in the past.
They killed those people, They violated their rights. They executed them, all for having the nerve to resist an unlawful intrusion of their property.
THEY KNEW those children were in that building, but they did it anyway.
Even if you believe that David Koresh was a psycho, dangerous pedophile, the FBI and ATF could have easily arrested him outside of his home. He went for a long run every day and often made trips into town. They didn't want that. They wanted a public spectacle because ATF was facing budget cuts.
The Commie Feds absolutely started the firing. Their story was that the Branch Davidians started the firing by shooting through the front door. Multiple witnesses, including lawyers, have testified that all of the bullet holes in the metal front door were punched in, so they came from the outside. After they cooked and gassed all of the kids inside, the Commie Feds took control of the scene and, low and behold the front door was never seen again.
On the last day of the standoff, they sent in tanks to punch holes through the structure on a windy day. They punched holes into a secured room off of the kitchen where many of the women and children were hiding and directly shot military-grade gas into that secured room, creating a gas chamber. Many of the women and children suffocated to death in that room.
The punching of holes in the building created a tinder box on a dry Texas day. I believe 100% that the Fed Commies started the fire. They claim that they didn't. But they also claimed that they didn't fire a single shot on the last day of the standoff, which we now know is an absolute lie.

Especially if one of your claims is related to illegal weapons. You make every effort to apprehend them in isolation, so they don't have the opportunity to set up a defensive position.

It was really the height of FBI incompetence. Koresh and his followers routinely went into town to shop. They did so many times while under FBI surveillance. The FBI could have picked up Koresh and the leadership while they were in town, and the rest would have given up.
